The whole story takes place inside the cafe de beginet at lunch time 12:47 to be precise.
Establish the motivations, conflict and message
Mrs Allen
The motivation for Mrs Allen entering the scene was her desire to have doughnuts and a coffee at the cafe de beignet because its her local cafe.
The motivation for her decision to sit down at the old mans table is because its the only available seat, and her short little legs are tired.
The motivation for her frustration is her over protective nature for her possessions, which is why she tries to keep the doughnuts to herself.
The motivation for Mrs Allen leaving the cafe was due to her disgust of the old mans presumptuous behaviour.
The main conflict is a misunderstanding between the old man and Mrs Allen. This resolved at the end when Mrs Allen discovers that her doughnuts were where she left them.
The message is people appear to be quick to judge others and think negatively towards strangers.
The Old Man
His motivation for letting Mrs Allen share the doughnuts was because he is generally generous.
Describe what happens before and after
Before:
The Cafe De Beignet is starting to fill up just before the lunch time rush. An old man leaves a news paper shop holding a paper. He walks down the dreary street and into the cafe. He goes to the counter and buys himself a bag of doughnuts and a coffee . There are still plenty of tables that are empty so he goes over by the window and takes a seat. He places his bag of doughnuts on the floor and begins to drink his coffee. Mean while Mrs. Allan is putting on her make-up before going out. She is just about to walk out the door when she realises she has forgotten to put in her false teeth. So she dashes back to the bathroom and swallows them into her mouth. She walks the short walk to the cafe and enters.
After:
Mrs. Allan is really embarrassed by what happens and because of her ignorance she apologises. Awkward and embarrassed she shamefully leaves the cafe and begins to walk towards the bus stop. She takes a seat at the bus stop and shortly after the old man joins her. They begin talking and sit next to each other when the bus arrives. They decide to meet at the Cafe De Beignet every week and eat doughnuts.

The conflict and confusion that both characters go through when Mrs. Allan thinks that the doughnuts are hers.
